MSA to Add to Reward in Shooting of Pittsburgh-Area Police Officer

PITTSBURGH, May 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MSA (NYSE: MSA) today announced that it would contribute $2,500 to the reward fund established for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who shot and wounded Forest Hills, Pa. police Officer Matthew Livingstone. Officer Livingstone was shot on Saturday, April 23 by an unknown assailant at a suburban shopping center near Pittsburgh.

The reward fund was recently established through multiple donations by various local entities including Crimestoppers, Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala, Jr., the Forest Hills Police Association, Forest Hills Borough, Forest Hills Mayor Ray Heller Jr. and Braddock Hills Borough. The MSA contribution raises the total reward fund to more than $8,000.

The donation is the first time that MSA, a Pittsburgh-based safety company established in 1914, has made a monetary contribution specifically intended to assist in a law enforcement investigation, according to Ernie Batista, MSA Homeland Security Manager and Law Enforcement Specialist.

"MSA's mission and heritage is based on protecting life," Mr. Batista said. "We have a long history of developing and providing equipment specifically designed to protect the lives of first responders. The law enforcement community is important to MSA and, as a Pittsburgh-based company, we felt an obligation to provide assistance with this investigation. Our hope is that Officer Livingstone will make a full recovery and that the increased reward will provide the incentive necessary for an individual to step forward and provide police with information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this tragic shooting."

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Forest Hills Police Department at 412-351-4141 or the Allegheny County Police Department at 412-473-3000. Callers also may leave an anonymous tip by calling Crimestoppers at 412-255-8477.
